The Communications Consultant provides strategic communication consultation, planning, and content creation to support the advancement of health research at London Health Sciences Centre Research Institute (LHSCRI). A key component of this role will be developing and executing communications strategies that support LHSC in implementing a new strategic vision for hospital-based research. Practicing exceptional discernment and diplomacy, the Communications Consultant will also work collaboratively with peers at St. Joseph's Health Care London and Western University to profile hospital-based research while building provincial, national and global visibility. This work includes ensuring that internal and external stakeholders are communicated with and kept informed of LHSC's research activities, initiatives and accomplishments in order to engender support, enhance reputation, contribute to staff satisfaction and improve relationships with key stakeholders. - Rate of Pay: $49.27 per hour - $61.59 per hour

Responsibilities
- Designing, executing and measuring internal and external strategic communications plans
- Designing, executing and measuring brand strategies
- Conducting research to enhance audience insights, define communication environments, align to best practices and inform strategy
- Consulting with all levels of leadership to advance research at LHSC
- Developing and executing media relations strategies
- Managing social media channels and strategies
- Providing advice on risks and benefits of media engagement opportunities
- Supporting media activities, including preparing researchers for interviews and coordinating logistics
- Crafting content, including internal communications products, web copy, news releases, backgrounders, Q&A documents, social media content, marketing collateral and other products
- Drafting key messages, speaking remarks and event collateral
- Developing and implementing issues and crisis management strategies
- Supporting government, community and stakeholder relations
- Planning internal and external events, including announcements and VIP visits
- Advising on emerging trends in communications and bringing forward ideas for change
- Collaborating with and supporting team members in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Qualifications
- Successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Policy, or Political Science
- Minimum five (5) years recent, related experience in a communication role with exposure to media (health care or public sector preferred)
- Previous health or science communication experience preferred
- Demonstrated superior writing skills
- Demonstrated experience in media relations and storytelling
- Demonstrated experience in brand development and brand management
- Demonstrated expertise in issues and crisis management
- Demonstrated expertise in professional communication/public relations writing
- Demonstrated excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective time management, organizational skills and ability to multi-task with tight deadlines
- Ability to travel between hospital sites
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically
- Demonstrated advanced problem solving and decision-making skills
- Demonstrated advanced flexibility and adaptability to change
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
