About Deshkan Ziibiing Investment Corporation

The Deshkan Ziibiing Investment Corporation focuses on the prosperity development of Chippewas of

the Thames First Nation by investing for the next seven generations guided by the Chi-innakonigewin

(constitution) and Wiindmaagewin (consultation protocol). Primarily focused on high-growth

opportunities, DZIC employs a total portfolio approach to a multi-pronged investment strategy

concentrated on major projects and diversified through investments (joint ventures, minority equity

interest, and acquisitions) into companies across major project-related value chains.

Key responsibilities

The Analyst will spend up to 90% of their time on projects issued by Deshkan Ziibiing Investment

Corporation and 10% of their time with Propel Impact. During their weekly time with Propel, Analysts

will participate in a speaker series curated by Propel and other personal & professional development

opportunities.

Deshkan Ziibiing Investment Corporation projects:

● Perform industry and market research to identify trends, competitive dynamics, and potential

risks or growth drivers

● Identify investment opportunities based on market research and, if possible, attending in-person

events

● Lead pre-screening opportunity assessments (2-3 page memo) for entrance into DZIC's

investment deal flow

● Conduct financial analysis and build detailed financial models (LBO, DCF, comparable company

analysis) to evaluate potential investment opportunities

● Support due diligence processes by analyzing financial statements, reviewing data rooms, and

coordinating with external advisors (legal, accounting, consultants)

● Prepare investment memos (15-25 pages), presentations, and supporting materials for the DZIC

board of directors and COTTFN's Chief and Council

● Assist in deal execution activities, including transaction structuring, valuation analysis, and

documentation review

● Maintain and update internal databases, financial models, and pipeline tracking tools to ensure

accurate reporting and organization

Propel Impact:

● Weekly cohort meetings to support growth in areas such as inclusive leadership, consulting skills,

general social finance, and peer learning.

● Connect with experienced professionals in the social impact space to explore career goals and

receive guidance.

● Receive ongoing support from the Propel team to help Analysts navigate challenges, celebrate

progress, and get the most out of their internship experience.

● For returning Analysts only: Take the lead on at least one cohort-wide session by hosting a

workshop or moderating on a topic you care about. You’ll be responsible for organizing and

guiding the full hour.

The ideal Analyst is someone who:

● Has strong self-awareness, empathy, and emotional intelligence

● Has strong intercultural competency, awareness, and appreciation for people with diverse

backgrounds and experiences

● Has demonstrated interest and knowledge in social/environmental issues, social enterprise,

and/or impact investing

● Has demonstrated excellent ability to perform the following skills:

o Finance

o Investment Analysis

o Impact Measurement

● Proficiency in Microsoft 365 products

● Experience working with Asana and Airtable is an asset

● High level of initiative, organization, self-motivation, and problem-solving skills

● Is able to take initiative, be flexible, and work well under uncertainty

● Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills

● Has desire to support the growth and development of the Canadian social innovation sector

(social enterprises, impact investing funds, charities, non-profits, co-operatives)

● Has the drive to make a tangible difference in both oneself and in one’s local and global

community

Other details:

● Salary full-time: $10,780 CAD ($22/hour) OR salary part-time: $4,620 ($22/hour)

● Full-time (35 hours/week) OR part-time (15 hours/week), business hours are Monday to Friday,

9am – 5pm

● Office arrangement: Flexible, you may be living in London, Waterloo, Mississauga or Toronto
