Job Title: Maintenance Attendant / Houseperson

Location: Residence Inn by Marriott London Downtown
Department: Engineering & Housekeeping
Reports To: Chief Engineer / Housekeeping Supervisor
Employment Type: Full-Time / Part-Time

Job Summary:

The Maintenance Attendant / Houseperson is responsible for supporting the hotel’s maintenance and housekeeping teams by ensuring the property remains clean, well-maintained, and in excellent working condition. This role includes assisting with minor repairs, preventative maintenance, and housekeeping duties to enhance guest satisfaction and uphold Marriott’s brand standards.

This position requires a proactive individual with attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to perform light maintenance and housekeeping tasks efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

General Maintenance & Repairs:

  • Assist with basic maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, fixing minor plumbing issues, unclogging drains, and repairing fixtures.
  • Perform routine checks on HVAC systems, electrical outlets, and other building components, reporting any major concerns to the Chief Engineer.
  • Maintain hotel equipment and tools in proper working order.
  • Assist with minor painting, caulking, and wall repairs as needed.
  • Ensure outdoor areas, sidewalks, and parking lots are kept clean and free of hazards, including snow and ice removal during winter.

Guest Room & Public Area Support:

  • Respond to guest requests related to minor room repairs and maintenance concerns in a timely manner.
  • Assist housekeeping with deep cleaning projects, including carpet shampooing, furniture moving, and mattress flipping.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of storage rooms, housekeeping closets, and maintenance areas.
  • Perform spot cleaning and touch-ups in public spaces, including the lobby, hallways, and elevators.
  • Deliver and set up additional guest amenities, such as rollaway beds, cribs, and extra linens, as requested.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Ensure all hotel safety procedures are followed, including fire prevention and emergency response protocols.
  • Use proper techniques when handling tools, chemicals, and cleaning supplies.
  • Report any hazardous conditions, broken equipment, or security concerns immediately.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with local health and safety regulations.

Team Collaboration & Support:

  • Work closely with the housekeeping, front desk, and engineering teams to provide seamless service to guests.
  • Assist with special projects, including renovations and seasonal maintenance tasks.
  • Support hotel sustainability efforts by properly disposing of waste and recycling materials.
  • Participate in regular training sessions to stay updated on safety protocols and maintenance best practices.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Experience & Skills:

  • Previous experience in hotel maintenance, housekeeping, or general building upkeep is an asset but not required—training will be provided.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC systems is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to troubleshoot minor maintenance issues.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining a team-oriented mindset.
  • Strong customer service skills with a positive attitude and professional demeanor.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform tasks requiring bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools and maintenance equipment.
  • Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
