ABOUT THE ROLE

The Plant laborer at the Amrize Sunningdale Gravel Pit, performs a combination of tasks ranging from housekeeping activities, operation of fixed and mobile equipment used in the production of aggregates as well as routine maintenance and repairs as directed. Starting pay rate is $28.95 per hour to start with benefit, pension plan and pay increase after 3 months. This position may require split shifts, overtime and occasional weekends when required.

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Operate various pieces of fixed and mobile equipment to meet production and shipping requirements.
  • Complete cleanup assignments using a skid steer and/or hand-held tools.
  • Work safely around moving and/or rotating equipment while using the required personal protective safety equipment.
  • Perform pre-operational checks and operate assigned mobile equipment as trained and directed.
  • Complete scheduled maintenance inspections and lubrication of plant equipment using the appropriate job plans, procedures, and manuals.
  • Repair broken or malfunctioning equipment.
  • Be aware of environmentally sensitive areas and be alert to correct environmental problems that may develop in the assigned work area.
  • Comfortable with working at heights and confined spaces, with appropriate training.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviours.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Education: Ontario high school diploma (OSSD) or equivalent is preferred.
  • Required Work Experience: 1-5 Years in mining or Heavy equipment operation preferred.
  • Travel Requirements: 100% on-site work.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment with other co-workers, supervisors, and managers.
  • Mechanical aptitude; basic welding and fitting is preferred but not required.
  • Valid Class G driver’s license.
  • Good written and oral communication skills and dependability.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Working outdoors in varied temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Nights, overtime, and weekends when required.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
