For the Seasonal Nursery Associate position by the third week of April. This is a seasonal role running from April to July/August. Possible to extend until mid-to-late August.
This role is well-suited for Fanshawe College students, and we already have two staff members from 2024 interested in returning for the 2025 season.
We start with a basic hourly wage, with a potential increase by mid-May based on the season and performance.

Position Overview: We are seeking enthusiastic and customer-focused individuals to join our team as Seasonal Nursery Associates. In this role, you will assist customers with plant selection, provide care and maintenance for our diverse plant inventory, and ensure the nursery remains a welcoming and inspiring environment. This is a full-time seasonal position, requiring flexibility to work weekends and extended hours during peak seasons.
Key Responsibilities:

Customer Assistance: Guide and advise customers on plant selection, care, and maintenance to help them achieve their gardening goals.

Plant Care: Perform tasks such as watering, pruning, fertilizing, and transplanting to maintain the health and appearance of plants.

Inventory Management: Assist with receiving, unloading, and organizing plant shipments, ensuring accurate labeling and pricing.

Merchandising: Maintain clean and attractive displays, including sweeping, weeding, and arranging products to enhance the shopping experience.

Team Support: Collaborate with colleagues to support various departments and contribute to the overall success of the garden centre.
Qualifications:

Experience: Previous experience in a retail or horticultural setting is an asset but not required; training will be provided.

Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including standing, walking, bending, crouching, and lifting up to 23 kg (50 lbs) for extended periods.

Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and assist customers effectively.

Team Player: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Flexibility: Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required during peak seasons.
Work Environment: This position involves working in various conditions, including outdoor environments, greenhouses, and confined spaces. Employees may be exposed to wet or damp conditions, varying temperatures, and odors associated with plant materials. Personal protective equipment and training will be provided as necessary.
