LONDON PUBLIC LIBRARY is looking for a talented individual to join our team as:

Training & Development Professional

This is a Temporary Full-Time up to 20 months opportunity.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Administrator, Training & Development is accountable for the implementation of long-term and annual training and development plans. The incumbent designs, develops, delivers and evaluates training programs that enhance employee performance and engagement in support of the London Public Library’s (LPL’s) Purpose, Values, and User First Service Philosophy

This position demonstrates leadership behaviours and actions consistent with London Public Library’s Purpose, Values and Strategic Goals.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Leadership & Administration
• Facilitates and supports accurate and timely two-way communication amongst all departments and as required key external stakeholders.
• Builds collaborative and productive working relationships across the organization.
• Models behaviours that demonstrate commitment to the Library’s Purpose and Values.

Learning Design & Development
• Works with Director, Human Resources to ensure that employees have the knowledge and skills to perform the work required to achieve LPL’s Purpose and Strategic Initiatives and the effective/efficient daily operation of the Library.
• Under the direction of the Director, Human Resources supports compliance with legislation and application of library policies by participating in the development of procedures, guidelines and job aids and leading the design of related training models.
• Creates, monitors and documents the completion of legislated training requirements, such as WHMIS, by tracking training and providing alerts to supervisors when training is to be completed.
• Supports LPL’s compliance with Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and its service standards by ensuring training materials are up to date and employee completion is tracked.
• Develops, sources and maintains a comprehensive set of training solutions both for classroom delivery and web-based learning related to: leadership and supervisory skills, customer service skills, communication and teamwork skills, health and safety, technical skills related to LPL’s Integrated Library System, web-based and office 365 applications and devices, skills for of information delivery and referral, knowledge of and compliance with various pieces of legislation, change management skills, community development skills, etc.
• Develops, sources and maintains inventory of training material and resources, including tests, interactive exercises, quizzes, web-based resources, subject matter experts, mentors and training consultants available in-house and externally.

Program Delivery
• Identifies, trains and utilizes specific London Public Library subject matter experts in the provision of training. Ensures that all training materials are of a consistent quality and accuracy and conform to standards of clear language and accessibility. Advises subject matters experts on effective formats for training, e.g., job aids, procedures, manuals, checklists, etc.
• Responsible to coordinate and deliver orientation sessions for new hires.

Program Evaluation
• Establishes evaluation tools to determine effective outcomes and improve the training event and/or product.

Relationships with Internal and External Partners
• Develops relationships with other organizations that offer relevant training, such as the Ontario Library Service, Ryan Dowd Niche Academy, Absorb, Infosec etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
• Successful completion of a post secondary education with a major/focus on education/adult learning or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Certification as a Training & Development professional is an asset.

Experience:
• 2 years’ training experience, preferably in a unionized, service environment. Knowledge of training and development best practices with a demonstrated success in developing, implementing and evaluating training plans and programs.

Technical
• Proven knowledge of information resources and technologies; computer skills including proficiency with office productivity software (e.g. Microsoft Office 365); and online learning platforms and tools.

Working Hours:
• Usually work a standard 35-hour week.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends (no shift or premium paid)

This position works 100% on site to be able to support the needs of the London Public Library.

This is an Excluded position from the Bargaining unit.

Salary:
$35.607 – $50.173 per hour. Salary to commensurate with education and experience.
